LANTA Route 210 Rerouted in Western Salisbury

Salisbury commissioners approve proposed revised bus Route 210 route.

The Thursday approved a LANTA proposal to restructure bus Route 210 in Western Salisbury. The proposal is part of a major strategic program the transit agency is conducting to redesign all of their bus routes. The official restructures are scheduled to take effect by August 29, 2011.

LANTA planning director Owen P. O’Neil announced that Route 210, which currently serves Lehigh Street and the South Mall, was redesigned to provide enough schedule time to serve the areas surrounding Devonshire Park Apartments on 33rd Street SW and DevonHouse Assisted Living of Allentown on Bevin Drive.

“Anyone can use the service,” O’Neil said. “We expect that groups that will particularly benefit from the service are the residents at the Devonshire Apartments and employees at the Devon House.”

The restructure was the result of numerous requests by commuters for a more direct transport that could serve both locations. O’Neil said LANTA wanted to take advantage of the route’s modification in order to extend the service to those streets.

The township commissioners accepted the proposal and asked O’Neil to proceed with the township planning commission, where bus stop locations will be discussed. A formal planning hearing will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 14.
