LANTA to Install New Bus Stop Signs

LANTA will install more than 200 bus stop shelters throughout Lehigh County over the next five years as part of its new development plan.

LANTA officials met with the Salisbury Township Planning Commission Tuesday to give an update on a major development plan for their bus routes in Lehigh County.

LANTA Planning Director Owen O’Neil said the plan, called Move LANTA Forward, includes installing new signs at all their bus stops in Salisbury Township over the next year to make them more consistent and more easily identifiable.

O’Neil also said the new bus stop signs will provide helpful information on bus route schedules. A phone number will be placed on the sign so riders can call to get bus schedules, as well as the status of an approaching bus.

LANTA will install more than 200 bus stop shelters in various locations around Lehigh County over the next five years,  O’Neil said.  LANTA will also provide more sidewalk access in parts of Salisbury in bus stops that do not have them, he said.

During a June 9 public board meeting, LANTA officials said in Salisbury is currently being revised to service commuters traveling through Lehigh Street via the South Mall to the Devonshire Park Apartments on S. 33rd Street SW and DevonHouse Assisted Living on Bevin Drive.  O’Neil said the restructuring development program was created as a response to commuter surveys that requested a simpler, less confusing transit system.  The program will officially begin by August 29, 2011.
