Meet Salisbury School Board Candidate Audrey H. Frick

Audrey H. Frick is one of five candidates running for Salisbury School Board in the May 21 primary.

Audrey H. Frick

Age: May 16th is my 50th birthday

Family: My husband and I have 3 children.  Our oldest is a Salisbury High School graduate 2010, our second will be graduating from SHS on June 6th, and our youngest is currently a  Salisbury High School junior. We have lived in Salisbury Township for over 20 years, participating in a variety of school activities.

Political party affiliation: For the purpose of local politics I do not affiliate myself with any particular political party.  I am fiscally conservative and will vote to have our tax dollars be used ways that directly benefit our students.

Tell us about your educational background: 1985 Graduate Lebanon Valley College, BS  in Economics, cum laude.  2005 graduate DeSales University certification program in Elementary Education.

Tell us about your professional/business background: 15 years experience in private business, primarily in family owned photofinishing retail store with 3 locations in the Lehigh Valley (closed in 2003).  7 years experience teaching 1st grade at St. Ann School, Emmaus.

Why are you running for school board? I think that parents are underepresented on our current school board, I think all types of individuals should participate in in local politics and I can add this insight to our decision making.  I would like more honest communication between parents/families, the school board, and administration.

What qualifies you to serve on the board? My variety of experience qualifies me to serve.  I have both a strong business background and direct experience in the classroom, working with children (and their parents).

What do you see as the board's primary role and responsibilities? To balance the needs of  our students and the costs to our taxpayers.

Tell us about 3 major challenges facing the school district and how you would address them. (Please be as specific as possible):

    1.  Getting more of a variety of opportunities for our students.  To creatively inspire our students we should be increasing the number of courses available, and expanding experiences outside of the classroom.
    2.  Keeping our student to teacher ratio small.  I will vote 'no' for any more cuts of classroom aides, student support staff and teachers.
    3.  Improving the attitude and relationship between administration, school board leadership, and our students/families. We need to open up communication prior to making decisions that impact on our children's learning environment.

How much are you spending to run? How is your campaign being funded? I am spending under $100 to run.  I will purchase all materials myself for any flyers or signs promoting my candidacy.

What, if any, endorsements have you received? no endorsements.
