Residents' Input Wanted Tonight On Salisbury's Comprehensive Plan

Salisbury residents urged to help chart township's future at meeting Tuesday.

What do you want Salisbury Township to look like in 10 to 15 years?

Residents are encouraged to participate in a public meeting tonight at the planning commission on Salisbury Township's , which is being updated.  Residents can submit suggestions and are encouraged to review a consulting firm's recommendations.  There will be a series of maps on display. The plan will be presented at 7 p.m. at the township building, 2900 S. Pike Avenue.

The township hired Urban Research  & Development Corporation, a Bethlehem consulting firm,  to update the comprehensive plan, which is a municipality's planning tool to help define its identity, growth and goals. The consultants have conducted numerous interviews with public and private groups and officials. The comprehensive plan will examine:

  • Land use and housing, neighborhood revitalization, commercial and industrial areas, environmental conservation and historic preservation.
  •  Community facilities,  schools, police, fire, municipal services and buildings, parks, recreation and open space.
  • Transportation, road improvements, intersections, sidewalks, trails, linkages and parking.

Bryan Cope, a planning associate with URDC, said the plan will incorporate a road access study underway by the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission that could suggest new zoning to permit the addition of non-residential areas, or commercial development.
