Salisbury Comprehensive Plan Sent to Commissioners

Salisbury Township's first revised in nearly 20 years is one step closer to completion.

After working on the plan for more than a year, the planning commission recommended last week the long-range plan for Salisbury's future preservation, development and quality-of-life issues over the next 10 to 15 years be sent to the board of commissioners for comments.

The plan will also be sent to the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission, the and adjacent municipalities, which have 45 days to review it. The board of commissioners will then hold a public hearing on the comprehensive plan. The planning commission can still recommend changes.

Some highlights discussed at the April 10 planning commission include:

• Designation of a around that includes eight-story buildings along Cedar Crest Boulevard and Interstate 78; no new buildings permitted within 300 feet of residential lots.
• A recreation trail linking Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest and the Lehigh Parkway trails.

The township is also updating its subdivision and land development ordinances, or SALDO, which includes more detail than the comprehensive plan, which is more general and sets policy.

The comprehensive plan addresses natural features, conservation, land uses, housing, transportation, community facilities and services, community Development and ways to put the plan into action.
