Salisbury Crosswalk Approved on E. Emmaus Avenue
Commissioners hope to improve pedestrian safety at Emmaus Avenue and Seidersville Road.
After weighing pros and cons, Salisbury Township commissioners on Sept. 22 voted to install a on E. Emmaus Avenue, west of the Seidersville Road intersection.
Commissioners opted for the least expensive option and authorized the township’s public works department to do the work.
When completed, the crosswalk will consist of a striped walk area, with a 5-foot by 5-foot asphalt landing area off the shoulder of the road. Commissioners did not choose the more costly version of a crosswalk across over Seidersville Road, which would have entailed concrete work, additional sidewalks and removal of landscaping from the side of

Estimated at about $2,500, “the cost will be minimal,” said Public Works Director John Andreas.
Residents concerned about at the intersection requested the crosswalk. This, in part, is due to , and other Bethlehem attractions. No traffic study was conducted, but PennDOT reviewed the crosswalk proposal, officials said.

Commissioners expressed concern about setting a precedent for installing crosswalks by request, but officials noted that it will continue to be done on a case by case basis.
Township Manager Randy Soriano said the board weighed the pros and cons of the new crosswalk and asked the township engineer to investigate the possibilities. “Just because you entertain this one, doesn’t mean you have to entertain everyone,” he said.
