Salisbury's Hope UCC is Warming Shelter During Power Outage

Lehigh County opens new warming center at Hope UCC in Salisbury Township after it closes the shelter at the Troxell building in South Whitehall.

Lehigh County will open a new warming center at Hope United Church of Christ at 1031 Flexer Ave., Salisbury Township, today and Friday for residents whose home still lack power.

Hope UCC will be open from noon-8 p.m. today and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday. It can be used by residents who need a temporary warm place to stay, hot beverage, or a place to plug in cell phones or get information.

The county plans to close the emergency shelter at the Troxell building in South Whitehall at noon today.

 “Our senior citizen shelter population and those people most at risk have now been able to go back to the comfort of their homes,” said Thomas Nervine, Lehigh County Emergency Services director.

 “I truly believe people appreciated having a warm place to stay during the power outage,” said Nervine. “Shelter residents were very cooperative and patient with our volunteers, staff and with other shelter families. Everyone made the best of the situation.”
