Salisbury To Get New Street Signs

Hundreds of faded green and white street signs will be replaced with new blue and white ones, the colors of Salisbury School District.

Good news for Salisbury drivers: streets in the township will soon be marked with new blue and white signs. The new signs will replace the older green and white street signs, which in many cases are faded and difficult to read.

The township spent $20,000 to purchase hundreds of new street signs in the colors of its school district to comply with a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation street sign replacement project.

The federally mandated deadline for street sign replacement has now been rescinded.

Since Salisbury had already purchased the signs, they will be installed as needed, depending on township priorities, said Township Manager Randy Soriano. Sign replacements could be delayed by the township's fall leaf collection and .

During a recent on Aug. 25, commissioners approved a line-item transfer of $20,100 from the 2011 road program budget to pay for the signs.

“It’s an expense we did not anticipate; it’s one of those accounting things,” Soriano said.
