Sen. Toomey Named to Supercommittee

Republican senator voted against debt limit bill, selected to serve on bipartisan, debt-reduction supercommittee.

U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa), who was selected to serve on the bipartisan supercommittee, has an opportunty to leave his mark on the debt debate, according to The Morning Call. 

The freshman senator from the Lehigh Valley is one of three Republican senators who will serve on the 12-member committee, which is tasked with creating a deficit reduction plan in less than three months

Toomey is the only Tea Party-affiliated member on the panel, the article said.

The article said Toomey would be unyielding on new taxes. "But when asked if he could support increasing government revenue by eliminating a tax break or closing a loophole, Toomey left the door open," the Call said.
