Township Tax Collection Slightly Exceeding Expectations

Earned income tax, local services tax and realty transfer taxes are all slightly ahead of last year's pace, according to a recent memo.

A Sept. 19 memo from Salisbury Township Finance Director Cathy Bonaskiewich to the township's Board of Commissioners shows that tax collections for the year are slightly exceeding expectations.

The memo states:

  • The rate of real estate tax collection remains consistent from prior years. The additional revenues are a result of the increased 2013 millage.
  • The 2013 Realty Transfer Tax amount includes collections for the months of January through August 2013, while 2012 amounts reflect January through July collections only. Including the additional month of August 2012, collections had totaled $215,514; therefore, (the township is) slightly ahead of that pace this year by about $18,500. When comparing actual year-to-date collections to budget at 73.15%, (the township is) slightly ahead of where we expect with only 67% of the year elapsed. If collections continue at this rate, (the township) could expect to end the year exceeding budget expectations.
  • The Earned Income Tax & Local Services Tax collections show both up slightly from this same point in time last year. There are no absolute means by which to ascertain or predict month-to-month collection amounts.
