Tech Savvy: Salisbury Schools Honored by Apple

The Salisbury Township School District received a distinguished program award for the 2012-13 school year from representatives of Apple at a recent board meeting.

Both Salisbury High School and Salisbury Middle School were rewarded for successes in enhancing and extending teaching and learning with thoughtful and innovative implementations of technology.

The Apple Distinguished Program, dubbed Teaching and Learning 2014, is a designation reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence, and demonstrate Apple’s vision of exemplary learning environments.

"Fewer than 200 schools got this distinction and Salisbury got two schools designated, not just one," said Peter Oyler, executive developmental executive at Apple.

"The Apple Distinguished Program recognition is an affirmation that our teachers, administrators and school board are on the right path to providing a world class education for our students," said Salisbury assistant superintendent Dr. Randy Ziegenfuss.

The five categories that Apple measured both schools on were:

• Visionary leadership

• Innovative learning and teaching

• Ongoing professional development

• Compelling evidence of success

• Flexible learning environment
