Salisbury High School Baseball Field To Get Improvements

District already budgeted $190,000 to improve unsafe field, needs to use capital funds for remaining balance if bid is accepted.

Salisbury School District received three bids for its proposed baseball field regrading plan.

The district plans to regrade the entire infield, provide a new chain-link backstop, chain-link fencing, portable bleachers and safety netting.

At the August 8 operations meeting, Chris Haller from D’Huy Engineering suggested the Salisbury School Board either take the bid from Jones Management for $242,000 or Grace Industries for $269,000.

The bid from Jones Management allows for a safety net---if something should need more work or there is an unexpected cost—of $20,000. Grace Industries offers a larger safety net of $45,000.

The district already planned and budgeted $190,000 for the plan, but needs to use capital funds for the remaining balance if they decide to accept one of the bids.

Haller said the bids do not include any work regarding the dugouts.

because it is uneven. In addition, because of its proximity to other fields, foul balls sometimes disrupt other sports activities going on at the same time, such as soccer and track. Foul balls have damaged parts of the high school building in the past.

The school board did not come to a consensus on whether they will accept either bid, but agreed to look at the amount of money they would be able to use from capital funds.

“It sounds like it has to be addressed at some point and the deserves it,” said board member John Moyer.

The board will vote on this matter at the August 17 school board meeting.
