Swain MathCounts Team Places 15th in Region

Swain School students placed 15th in the recent regional MatchCounts competition.

The Swain School placed 15th out of 32 teams in the recent regional MathCounts competition.

Eighth-grader Kelsey Grube of Coopersburg placed 23rd out of the 300 middle school students who competed in the individual rounds.

Members of Swain's team included Grube and eighth-graders Linda Cordero and Bethany Trempel, both of Bethlehem. Seventh-grade members included Zach Lawless of Bethlehem, Ben Becker of Center Valley, Jenna Popp of Walnutport, Marcy Bardman of Barto and Mary Dent of Allentown.

The 28th annual Lehigh Valley MathCounts competition, which attracted competitors from five counties, was held Feb. 4 at Trexler Middle School in Allentown.

The top four winners will move onto state level competitions March 23-24 in Harrisburg, part of the National Society of Professional Engineers' "Olympics of Math" national competition.
