Varvara Lepchenko Loses Olympic Tennis Bid

Lehigh Valley Olympic tennis player Varvara Lepchenko lost in the second round of the competition to Julia Goerges of Germany.

Lehigh Valley Olympian lost Tuesday in the second round of singles tennis to Julia Goerges of Germany.

Lepchenko, who resided in South Whitehall but now lives in Upper Macungie, was defeated 6-3, 7-5.

Goerges now moves on to the third round in the 2012 Games.

Lepchenko, who was competing in her first Olympics, has trained at the in recent years and had competed in a tournament there.

Lepchenko had made it to the second round in singles tennis after on Monday. Lepchenko had defeated Cepede Royg in the third set of her first-round match.
