Fire company: Eastern Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department

Training so far: I am going for my EMT and have certification for Firefighter 1, HazMat, pump operation 1 and vehicle rescue.

What's it like being a firefighter? There is something new everyday. No one call is the same. It is stressful, but rewarding because you know you are helping people.

How do your loved ones feel about you putting your life in danger? It doesn't bother them much, because they know the people I am working with and they trust them.

Tell us a story you'll never forget about your firefighting experience. The first call I went on was memorable because it was one of the worst accidents Salisbury Township has seen. I went because most of the other firefighters were out helping with a tanker fire on 378. Instead of watching, I was able to help.

What would you tell people interesting in joining your fire company: Don't be afraid to try it out. It is worth it and you learn a lot. The brotherhood/sisterhood here is very strong.

About this column: Everyday, countless men and women commit their time and risk their lives to serve our Salisbury Township community through our local fire departments, ambulance corps and police department. Salisbury Patch will honor these "Community Heros" through this ongoing feature.
