Walking Purchase Park Clean-Up Day Set for April 28

Friends of the Allentown Parks want to improve, preserve and encourage the use of the city's parks.

A clean-up day for in Salisbury Township has been scheduled for April 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

On Thursday, Robert Donatelli, an attorney for Friends of the Allentown Parks, asked the Salisbury Township board of commissioners for the organization to obtain a permit to proceed with the clean up. The park is jointly owned by the city of Allentown, Lehigh County and Salisbury Township. The board granted the request, provided the organization provide insurance and hold-harmless agreements.

Donatelli said the mission of the Friends of the Allentown Parks, which was formed five years ago with the Harry C. Trexler Trust, is to improve, preserve and encourage the use of the city's parks. The group has enlisted the help of about 50 volunteers for the clean-up, PennDOT will donate tools and the city of Allentown will remove the trash, he said.
