Salisbury Baseball Starts Road to District Title

The Salisbury boys baseball team, champions of the Colonial League, will take on Pine Grove Friday night in a semifinal District 2A game at Limeport Stadium.

The Salisbury High School baseball team, fresh off earning a Colonial League championship earlier this month, will embark on its quest for another District 11 2A title Friday night. The top-seeded Falcons, who drew a first-round bye, face Pine Grove in the semifinal round Friday night at 7 p.m. at Limeport Stadium. Should the Falcons advance, they will contest the District 2A title game against either Notre Dame-Green Pond or North Schuylkill on Wednesday, May 29 at 4:30 p.m. at Coca-Cola Park. It's been another banner year for Salisbury baseball. Falcons Win Colonial League Baseball Title Again

Salisbury boys defeated rival Southern Lehigh to win another Colonial League baseball championship.

Justin Aungst pitched a two-hit shutout to send top-ranked Salisbury High School's baseball team to a 6-0 victory over Southern Lehigh for another Colonial League championship Thursday night at Limeport Stadium. Aungst also hit a home run in the game, according to a Morning Call report. Salisbury outscored its Colonial League opponents 140-23 this season, according to a WFMZ report. The Falcons have won three Colonial League titles in the last five years. Four Falcons have been named to the Colonial League all-star baseball first team: Nic Ampietro is also the Colonial League south MVP for the season. The Colonial League baseball championship Thursday will feature Salisbury versus Southern Lehigh.

  Salisbury boys will go for their twelfth Colonial League baseball championship Thursday against Southern Lehigh at 7 p.m. at Limeport Stadium. The Falcons defeated Notre Dame 4-1 Tuesday in the semi-final game. Salisbury goes into the championship ranked first in the Colonial League South. Southern Lehigh is ranked second. Four Falcons have been named to the Colonial League all-star baseball first team: Salisbury won its 11th Colonial League championship title last year. Salisbury baseball team continues to dominate the Colonial League south.

The Salisbury boys baseball team goes into its semifinal playoff game Tuesday sitting atop the Colonial League south standings. The Falcons will play Notre Dame-Green Pond at 7 p.m. at Limeport Stadium. The winner of that game will play the winner of Tuesday's 4 p.m. semifinal match between Southern Lehigh and Catasauqua for the championship. The championship game is set for 7 p.m. Thursday in Limeport. Salisbury won its 11th Colonial League championship title last year. In 2011, the Falcons made history by becoming the school's first team to compete for a state title in any sport. State Championship Swim Team Feted by School Board

The Salisbury School Board honored the accomplishments of the high school boys swim team, which won the first state title in school history earlier this year.

Salisbury School Board directors honored a Salisbury High School athletic team that made school history earlier this year. School officials recently honored the PIAA 2A state championship boys swim team. The boys swim team became the first Salisbury High School athletic team to win a PIAA state championship in any sport. The manner in which the Falcon swim team, under the direction of first-year coach Jason Reinhard, won the title will also be etched in school lore. Trailing by one point entering the final event, the 400-meter relay team of Jon Dakota Anderson, Tim Costantini, Garrett Collins and Eric Tatum took the event to secure the gold medal. Phillies' Ryan Howard Hits Home Run for Local Boy

A home run by Phillies slugger Ryan Howard fulfilled the wish of a 7-year-old Center Valley fan who is blind.

Ryan Howard's second-inning home run in Friday's game against the Miami Marlins came at the request of A.J. Moncman, 7, a fan from Center Valley, according to a Lehigh Valley Live report. The boy met Howard before the game as part of "Teacher Appreciation Night" festivities that included honoring A.J.'s teacher Bethann Molinari. A.J. was diagnosed with Leber’s congenital amaurosis (LCA) at an early age, according to USA Today. LCA is a genetic eye disorder that primarily affects the retina and causes severe vision impairment from a young age, according to the National Institutes of Health. A.J. met first baseman Howard before the game and gave him a bracelet. "I told him, 'I want you to hit a home run tonight just for this,'" A.J. said, in…

Broad Street Run Bans Backpacks for 2013 Race

Runners are being encouraged to bring as little as possible with them this year.

Following the backpack bombings at the Boston Marathon two weeks ago, runners in this year's Broad Street Run in Philadelphia won't be able to tote their gear in a backpack, race organizers announced in a mass email to participants Monday. Taking a page from the Transportation Safety Administration's playbook, race organizers are mandating runners use clear plastic drawstring bags, which will be handed out at the expo Friday and Saturday, to stow their gear this year. “You are strongly encouraged to bring as little as possible with you to the start of the race,” race organizers said in the email to runners. “All items brought into the start area are subject to search and/or confiscation.” Race organizers only indicated backpacks would be …
