Lehigh Valley Grand Prix Wants Drivers for 'Shootout' Race

Sign up to drive a go-cart in the Lehigh Valley Grand Prix 'All-Star Shootout' coming up in May.

Lehigh Valley Grand Prix in Allentown will host its inaugural “LVGP All-Star Shootout” race on Sunday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This four-part series of endurance races is a new format inspired by NASCAR’s All-Star Weekend. The LVGP All-Star Shootout is broken down into “Pro” and “Amateur” classes based on lap times and teams of 2-5 drivers can sign up now to participate. “With the LVGP All-Star Shootout, we wanted to create a race that combines aspects of Sprint Cup Series and endurance racing unique to the indoor karting experience,” said Michael McCreary, partner at Lehigh Valley Grand Prix. “The fact that this race is happening during NASCAR’s All-Star Weekend will just add the exciting atmosphere at Lehigh Valley Grand Prix.” The…

As construction of Allentown's hockey arena continues, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms are offering an electronic newsletter to keep fans informed.

The countdown to the 2014 opening of PPL Center in Allentown is on and fans can sign up for a free electronic newletter to stay up to date on the Lehigh Valley Phantoms professional hockey franchise. Visit the Phantoms website and click on "stay informed" to sign up for the newsletter. Fans can also join the season ticket priority list by signing up online or calling 610-224-4625. Season ticket prices start at $600. Construction of the 8,500-seat PPL Center in Allentown where the Phantoms will play continues. The team had an open practice in Bethlehem last month. The Phantoms were established in 1996, playing their first 13 seasons in the Spectrum in Philadelphia, and currently reside in Glens Falls, NY. The Phantoms have won two Calder …

Salisbury Runner Takes 2nd in 4-Miler

Event marks the 36th straight year of the race sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Road Runners.

Michael Miller, 20, of Salisbury Township took second place in the 36th annual 4-Mile Classic road race in Emmaus on Sunday, wiith a time of 22:55. Dan Sobrinski, 37, of Bethlehem, led the field of 323 finishers in a time of 22 minutes and 29 seconds. Miller was followed by R. Reinhard, 36, of Emmaus at 23:38. The top female finisher was Carolyn Dunharm, 37, of Center Valley with a time of 24:46. She was followed by Kristen Karwacki, 33, of Macungie at 25:09 and Kami Reinhard, 35, of Emmaus at 25:24. Hosted by the Lehigh Valley Road Runners, the course started and finished at Emmaus High School and wove through local streets. Sunny skies provided a pleasant backdrop, but temperatures were a bit cool, and a bit of a biting breeze offered …

Iron Pigs Season Starts Thursday

Catch the Iron Pigs season opener against the Syracuse Chiefs Thursday at Coca-Cola Park.

The first 3,000 fans 18 and older will receive a fleece blanket presented by Service Electric Cable TV & Communications as part of the opening night festivities on Thursday, April 4 at Coca-Cola Park. The 2013 Lehigh Valley IronPigs season starts at 7:05 p.m. against the Syracuse Chiefs with all gates opening extra early at 5 p.m. for a pre-game happy hour featuring $1 hot dogs and $2 domestic drafts until 6 p.m. Butch Patrick, who starred as Eddie Munster on the hit 1960s TV show "The Munsters," will throw out the season's ceremonial first pitch. Iron Pigs Host Fightin' Phils in '222 Classic' on Tuesday

See two Phillies farm teams in one great exhibition game to benefit Iron Pigs charities at Coca-Cola Park on Tuesday.

Get a sneak peek at the top prospects in the Phillies organization when the Lehigh Valley IronPigs host the Double-A Reading Fightin Phils in the sixth annual U.S. 222 Showcase exhibition game at Coca-Cola Park on Tuesday, April 2. Game time is 6:35 p.m. with all gates opening at 5:30 p.m. to kick off the 2013 season. Parking is free for this event.  All tickets to the 222 Showcase will be General Admission, granting fans access to the Field Level seating bowl on a first-come, first-served basis. Home of IronPigs will be the first venue in North America to feature hands-free urinal video games in all of the ballpark's men's rooms.

  Coca-Cola Park will be the first sports venue in the world to feature a new "Urinal Gaming System,” allowing fans to interact with the world's only truly hands-free urinal game controller, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs announced Tuesday. The "p-controlled" video game systems will be featured in all men's restrooms at Coca-Cola Park. "These games are sure to make a huge splash," quipped IronPigs General Manager Kurt Landes.
