Woman Stole $24K from 'Ride for Adam,' DA Says

Charmaine Lynn McKelvey, of Breinigsville, is charged with stealing from the 'Ride for Adam,' which raises money for a foundation for treatment and research of Niemann-Pick Type C disease.

A Breinigsville woman has been charged with theft and other offenses for allegedly stealing $23,580 from the Ride for Adam, according to the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office. Charmaine Lynn McKelvey, 43, of 8657 Breinigsville Road, Breinigsville, is charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property and theft by failure to make required disposition of funds, all third-degree felonies, according to a news release issued Tuesday. In January, South Whitehall Township Police began an investigation into the theft or misappropriation of money from the Ride for Adam, which supports a non-profit foundation that assists families with funding for treatment and research of Niemann-Pick Type C, a neuromuscular …

Grumpy's Chili Cook-Off to Benefit Race for Adam

Chili competition on June 12 at Grumpy's Bar-B-Que Roadhouse in South Whitehall will benefit the Race for Adam Foundation, named for a local boy who has Niemann-Pick C, a rare neural degenerative disease.

Area cooks will compete in a chili cook-off June 12 to benefit the Race for Adam Foundation, which funds research of Niemann-Pick Type C, a rare neural degenerative disease. The second Annual Bike Night Chili Cook-off will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. outside at Grumpy's Bar-B-Que Roadhouse in South Whitehall.  The foundation is named for Adam Recke, of Bethlehem Township, who suffers from the disease that currently has no cure. Adam's father, Sean Recke, is a technology teacher at Salisbury Middle School, which has rallied behind the Recke family with numerous events. Dr. Rick Boulay Wins LVMA For Best Classical Solo

Dr. Rick Boulay, an LVH oncologist and Salisbury Township resident, won the LVMA's award for Best Classical Solo Performance and a song dedicated to Adam Recke won Best Original Song.

Dr. Rick Boulay, a Salisbury Township resident and oncologist at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, won the award for Best Classical Solo Performance Sunday night at the 13th annual Lehigh Valley Music Awards. Boulay's CD, "Peace: A Musical Journey," was released this year, his third in a series about the journey with cancer. Country rocker Scott Marshall's song, "Everyday I Believe," about Adam Recke, a Salisbury Middle School teacher's son who suffers from a rare incurable disease, won Best Original Song. Marshall sang the song at the awards ceremony held at Musikfest Cafe in the ArtsQuest Center in Bethelehem, according to The Morning Call. Recke, 12, attended the event. Salisbury Students Perform, Give $1,000 to Race for Adam Foundation

Salisbury students performed their winning song from video contest Saturday and gave $1,000 to local charity.

After garnering the most votes in an online video contest, Casey Creveling and Alan Mendez finally got to present their $1,000 prize on Saturday to the charity for whom it was always intended: the Race for Adam Foundation, which funds research of Niemann-Pick Type C, a rare genetic disease. The pair, who attend Salisbury High School, were inspired by Salisbury Middle School teacher Sean Recke's son, Adam, who has the disease. They wrote an original song, "Tomorrow Afternoon," for a video they entered in a contest to help charities, 1G for Good, sponsored by First Generation, a marketing firm in Allentown. A Salisbury High School student's video won $1,000 for charity by getting the most votes in 1G for Good, a local contest sponsored by First Generation, a multimedia marketing firm in Allentown. Casey Creveling and Alan Mendez, both juniors, wrote an original song, "Tomorrow Afternoon" for their video, "Race for Adam," to benefit the Race for Adam Foundation. The video, one of three finalists, won with 136,000 votes, First Generation announced Thursday Creveling shot the video in the two days before finals last spring, then edited it and submitted it to the contest. Mendez recorded all the vocals and the drums and Creveling recorded both guitars. The students entered the contest to help Adam Recke, the son of a Salisbury Middle School …

A Salisbury High School student's video is one of three finalists in a local contest he entered to win $1,000 to help a Salisbury Middle School teacher's ailing son who suffers from a rare disease, Niemann-Pick Type C. Casey Creveling and Alan Mendez, both juniors, wrote an original song, "Tomorrow Afternoon," for their video, "Race for Adam," which they entered in the 1G for Good Contest. Race for a Cure 5K Run at Lehigh Parkway

Hundreds of runners/walkers attended the 6th Annual Race for a Cure 5K Run at Lehigh Parkway for 12-year-old Adam Recke, who has Niemann-Pick Type C,disease.

The Race for Adam Foundation held the 6th Annual Race for a Cure 5k on Saturday, May 7, under clear blue skies at Lehigh Parkway in Allentown. The race is held for Adam Recke, a 12-year-old from Bethlehem Township who has Niemann-Pick Type C, a rare and fatal neural degenerative disease which has no cure. People with Niemann-Pick Type C are unable to metabolize cholesterol and other lipids properly within their cells. As a result, excessive amounts of cholesterol accumulate within the liver and spleen, and excessive amounts of lipids accumulate in the brain. Most children with the disease die before age 20. With clear skies and warm weather, hundreds of runners and walkers lined up to show their support by participating in the race. Mike …

The Race for Adam Foundation will hold 5K race May 7 to raise money to help find a cure for rare Niemann-Pick Type C.

With his wavy blond hair, big blue eyes and healthy glow, 12-year-old Adam Recke appears to be the picture of health. He loves to play sports and listen to music. But Adam has Niemann-Pick Type C,  a rare and fatal neural degenerative disease most people have never heard of and for which there is no cure--- yet.  “It’s more than a rare disease, it’s an ultra rare disease,” said Adam's father, Sean, a technology teacher at Salisbury Middle School. “To be considered a rare disease in the United States, the disease has to affect less than 200,000 people.
