McNabb is Greatest Quarterback in Philadelphia Eagles History

Former Quarterback Donovan McNabb announced this week that he is going to retire as a Philadelphia Eagle.

With the Philadelphia Eagles in mini-camp this week, a lot has been discussed about the team's quarterbacks. Who will emerge as the starter among Michael Vick, Nick Foles and rookie Matt Barkley. But then another quarterback's name entered the picture. And while he's not fighting for a roster spot, he's gunning for a legacy in Philadelphia Eagles history. Donovan McNabb announced this week his intentions to retire as a Philadelphia Eagle. And the team is planning a ceremony that will enable McNabb to be honored with Coach Andy Reid and his new team the Kansas City Chiefs in town. Ah, No. 5 and Big Red. Those were the days... And don't you miss those days? Maybe we took it for granted that McNabb put the Birds in playoff position every year…

most comments here are by people too young to remember how truly awful the eagles were prior to McNabb and Andy. They never got it done in the big game, but it was a great ride knowing we were going to the playoffs every year.   more ›

Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Situation Crazy

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that Quarterback Michael Vick is returning for another year.

It was the last game of the season, a horrible loss to the New York Giants. And Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Michael Vick, returning for the first time in more than a month after injury, had once again been battered and bruised. But this time, Vick lashed out: blasting his teammates for a lack of effort and heart. We all thought that was the last Birds fans would ever see of the controversial QB. After all, Vick had spent most of the season injured. And when he was on the field, he was producing too many costly turnovers. He was due a bonus if kept on the roster. And about $15 million if he played next season. So everyone thought Vick would be cut right after the Super Bowl. Well, guess who's back? New coach Chip Kelly made a move that …

No. Also Vick will be out of Philly by our 1st game. we will have a 3 year practice squad QB as our starter and 3 year receiver from Tamp Bay he has been injured as well for the same amount of time really we do you think we are…   more ›

Will Andy Reid Succeed in Kansas City?

Former Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid has a chance to rebuild the Kansas City Chiefs into a champion.

Can Andy Reid do it again? Can the former coach of the Philadelphia Eagles take another franchise and rebuild it into a champion? Hired Monday as the new coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, Reid hopes to revive a franchise that was once the talk of the AFC, a terror that used to give the Vince Lombardi Green Bay Packers a run for their money. The Chiefs have made two Super Bowl apperances, just like the Eagles. But they've already won a Super Bowl, something the Birds still have never done. Reid built a sound resume during his 14-year tenure as Eagles coach. He can count off numerous NFC East crowns, playoff appearances and lots of visits to the NFC Championship Game. He took the Birds to the Super Bowl, losing to the New England Patriots. (…

"He took the Birds to the Super Bowl, losing to the New England Patriots. (Only the New York Giants seem to be able to beat the Pats in the Super Bowl.)" And the Chicago Bears. As for Andy Reid's probability for success in KC? They'll likely finish last in the division next season. This is not a team like the Colts, going from having the #1 to making the playoffs the following year, and Reid is …   more ›

Who Should Coach Philadelphia Eagles?

With Andy Reid gone, the path is clear for the Philadelphia Eagles to choose their next coach.

The Philadelphia Eagles have a big decision to make. It's a decision that will impact the direction of this franchise for at least the next few football seasons. Get it right, like when the team hired Andy Reid as coach 14 years ago, and fans can ride a wave of success for years to come. Maybe even a Super Bowl. Get it wrong and the team could sink to even lower depths than a 4-12 season. So many names are being tossed around right now about who the next potential coach of the Philadelphia Eagles may be. Which way should owner Jeff Lurie and General Manager Howie Roseman go? Find a proven winner? Grab someone from the college ranks? Or find a star rising up the NFL coaching ranks? The Birds interviewed Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator…

Andy Reid Hired as Kansas City Chiefs Coach

Former Philadelphia Eagles coach gets new gig in Kansas City.

Well, that didn't take long. Less than a week after being dismissed as coach of the Philadelpha Eagles, Andy Reid has landed his next gig as coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. According to numerous sports websites, Reid was flying to Kansas City to accept the job. Reid's lawyers were ironing out details of the contract, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The Kansas City Star was also reporting that the deal was done. Reid was fired Monday by Birds owner Jeff Lurie following a 4-12 season and ending a 14-year tenure. Reid suffered through a dismal season and also on a personal end this year. His son Garrett died of a heroin overdose during training camp. Reid is the winningest coach in Philadelphia Eagles history, having led the team to …

Andy Reid Fired as Philadelphia Eagles Coach

Tenure ends after 14 years for Philadelphia Eagles Coach Andy Reid following another disappointing season.

Andy Reid is out. The longtime coach of the Philadelphia Eagles was fired Monday by owner Jeff Lurie following two disappointing seasons, including a 4-12 campaign that ended Sunday with an ugly loss against the New York Giants. The Philadelphia Eagles announced on their website Monday morning that Reid's tenure as coach has ended. "Andy Reid won the most games of any head coach in Eagles history and he is someone I respect greatly and will remain friends with for many years to come,” Lurie said in a statement. "But, it is time for the Eagles to move in a new direction. Coach Reid leaves us with a winning tradition that we can build upon. And we are very excited about the future.” The Birds really didn't mesh the past two years as free …

Ugly Season Ends for Philadelphia Eagles

Same mistakes – turnovers, terrible tackling, etc. – haunt Philadelphia Eagles in season-ending loss Sunday to New York Giants.

After another ugly loss Sunday, this one a season-ender to the New York Giants, just how long will it take for Philadelphia Eagles Coach Andy Reid to be put out of his misery? He might be gone by the time you read this column. This loss wasn't even worth mentioning the final score, but the Giants put up more than 40 points as the Eagles made the same mistakes they made all year – terrible tackling, turnovers and horrible pass coverage. (Ok, it was 42-7.) Eli Manning looked more like Peyton Manning Sunday, tossing five touchdown passes in a game that the Giants needed to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Reid, on the other hand, was wrapping up his 14th season as coach, and the fans and media and everyone else have been calling for his…

Same Season Song for Philadelphia Eagles: A Loss

Philadelphia Eagles fall to Washington Redskins with turnovers and Red Zone mishaps.

It ended. Like most games have ended for the Philadelphia Eagles this year. With a loss. The last home game of the year. The last home game for Coach Andy Reid? It ended as quarterback Nick Foles once again tried to pull off some late-game, last-minute heroics. But this time, he couldn't pull it off. A ball fell short in the end zone to Jeremy Maclin. And a new tight end just picked up this past week dropped an easy touchdown pass. And then the game ended on an intentional grounding call with one second left on the clock. It ended. With 11 losses. And the same way as most games have ended this year. With plenty of turnovers and penalties. The Eagles finished the season at home 2-6. Foles played decently and running back LeSean McCoy …

What Will Be Andy Reid's Legacy?

Philadelphia Eagles Coach Andy Reid may be coaching last home game ever against Washington Redskins Sunday.

Dick Vermeil is beloved in Philadelphia. As the coach who turned the Philadelphia Eagles into a playoff contender and beat the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Championship in 1980, Vermeil will always have a place in the hearts of Philly sports fans. But what about Andy Reid? The longtime Birds coach may be coaching his last home game Sunday against the Washington Redskins. Reid has suffered through his worst year as coach as the Birds have stumbled and fumbled their way to the finish line this year in a season marred with injuries and inconsistencies. Fans have wanted Reid's head over the past few months as the team faltered from a 3-1 start. Team owner Jeff Lurie said that last year's 8-8 season was unacceptable. So, if Lurie fires Reid at the…
