Mother Speaks Out in LVH Child Endangerment Case

April Saul said she and her husband, Daniel Rivera decided to remove their daughter only after Lehigh Valley Hospital refused their repeated requests to have the child sent to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

The Pottstown mother who was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, after she and her husband removed their child from Lehigh Valley Hospital against medical advice, has gone on record as saying she was just trying to help her baby. According to a report by the Pottstown Mercury, April Saul, 42, said she and her husband, Daniel Rivera, 43, only decided to remove their daughter after Lehigh Valley Hospital refused their repeated requests to have the child sent to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. I just do not understand why you would just take your baby out of the NICU after being advised that it was not a good idea. I realize that you wanted her to get the care that she needed, but what if she would have died while out of the hospital with you? There was a reason she was in the NICU, if she was healthy enough to not be in there, they wouldn't have kept her there.   more ›

Parents Who Took Baby from LVH Charged With Endangering Welfare

April Saul and Daniel Rivera of Pottstown face criminal charges after allegedly taking their seriously ill daughter from Lehigh Valley Hospital without permission, according to the Lehigh County District Attorney's office.

  The parents of a seriously ill infant were charged Wednesday with endangering the welfare of a child for removing their daughter from Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest against medical advice in October, according to the Lehigh County District Attorney's office. April Saul, 42, and Daniel Rivera, 43, of 319 Chestnut St., Apt. 2, Pottstown, were also charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly using obscene language in the pediatric intensive care unit of LVH and engaging in “tumultuous behavior in view of extremely ill children, family and medical persons,” according to a prepared release.
