A chaotic and deadly gun battle on E. Third Street apparently began with a minor confrontation between two groups of people who did not know each other before Saturday night, according to Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli. By the time it ended, about 30 bullets had been fired, a young woman was dead and five men were wounded – one perhaps seriously enough to be paralyzed, according to the DA, who held a news conference Monday to explain what law enforcement knows about the shootout outside of the Puerto Rican Beneficial Society that claimed the life of Yolanda Morales. Bethlehem police are investigating the early morning shootings outside the Puerto Rican Beneficial Society in what has been described as a chaotic scene.
Story updated at 9:50 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 A 23-year-old woman was killed and five men wounded following a shootout early Sunday outside the Puerto Rican Beneficial Society, Bethlehem police said. The identity of the woman killed has not been released, pending notification of next of kin, but lehighvalleylive.com reported that a friend identified her as Yolanda Morales. Her death has been ruled a homicide, according to the Lehigh County Coroner's Office. On Sunday, there were candles, flowers and notes set up as a memorial at the shooting scene. Car used in Bethlehem crime left burning in remote area
A Bethlehem man was shot as he encountered burglars in his home Monday and the car used by the criminals was later found on fire in a remote part of Salisbury Township, according to this report. The stolen BMV sport utility vehicle was left in a field near the intersection of Dogwood Lane and Douglas Road. Police found it Monday night. The victim's injuries are not life threatening, according to a Morning Call report. Anyone with information should contact Bethlehem police at 610-865-7187.
