Giant Pulls Smoked Salmon From Shelves

The supermarket chain says it has removed several varieties of smoked salmon from its stores, following a recall by Ocean Beauty Seafoods LLC due to possible listeria contamination.

Giant Food Stores, LLC and Martin's Food Markets announced Monday that they have removed from sale several varieties of smoked salmon due to possible contamination by listeria monocytogenes. The announcement followed a recall by products sold by Ocean Beauty Seafoods LLC. The following products are included in the recall: • Nathan’s Nova Salmon, 3 oz., UPC 7303080368, all sell by dates • Nathan’s Nova Salmon, 8 oz., UPC 7303080369, all sell by dates • Lascco Smoked Salmon, 3 oz., UPC 7284001703, all sell by dates Giant said in a press release that it has received no reports of illnesses to date. Giant Pulls Veggie Burgers From Stores

Grocery chain says "Veggie Patch" brand meatless burgers may contain listeria.

Giant is pulling a brand of veggie burgers from its shelves due to a possible bacterial contamination. The grocery chain said Friday it was recalling packages of its Veggie Patch Ultimate Meatless Burger to possible contamination by listeria monocytogenes. Eating food infected with this organism can lead to listeria, which causes fevers, severe headaches, neck stiffness and nausea. It can be fatal in some cases. The recall affects nine ounce packages Veggie Patch Ultimate Meatless Burger, with the UPC code 61012900211 and January 12, 2013 sell-by date. Salmonella-linked Peanut Butter Plant Shut by FDA

The FDA shut down the plant whose peanut butter products under many brands were recalled because of salmonella contamination linked to people sickened in 20 states. The items were sold by Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Safeway and others.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Monday that it has blocked food distribution from the Sunland Inc. peanut butter plant in New Mexico whose products were subject to a wide recall in recent months because of salmonella contamination. The various types of Sunland peanut butter products – sold under several brands by major food retailers, including Giant, Trader Joe's, Safeway and Whole Foods – had been part of a voluntary recall that began in September and later was expanded. The FDA action is a mandatory order. The company's peanut butter products have been "linked to an outbreak of Salmonella Bredeney that has sickened 41 people in 20 states," the FDA said. RECALL: NESQUIK Chocolate Powder Recalled for Salmonella

Nestle is recalling NESQUIK Chocolate Powder from store shelves for potential Salmonella contamination.

Information from the Food and Drug Administration: Nestlé USA announced the voluntary recall of limited quantities of Nestlé NESQUIK® Chocolate Powder in the 10.9, 21.8 and 40.7 ounce canisters. The voluntary recall is limited to only NESQUIK Chocolate Powder, which was distributed nationally. No other varieties of NESQUIK powder or any sizes or flavors of NESQUIK ready-to-drink are affected by this recall. Nestlé is removing the canisters from distribution because the company was notified by an ingredient supplier, Omya Inc. that it has issued a recall of certain lots of its ingredient, calcium carbonate due to possible presence of Salmonella. More than 70 varieties of raw and roasted peanuts are added to a massive Sunland Inc. recall for possible salmonella contamination.

A recall that began with a contaminated batch of peanut butter sold at Trader Joe's and which expanded to other stores, has now expanded again. The recall now includes raw and roasted in-shell and shelled peanuts, Sunland Inc. announced Friday in a news release posted on the Food and Drug Administration website... The FDA has posted a searchable database of all products recalled in connection with the original peanut butter recall. The nuts were processed in the Sunland Peanut Processing Plant in Portales, N.M. The same plant processed the two Trader Joe's Valencia Peanut Butter varieties linked to an outbreak of salmonella bradeney, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Massive Peanut Product Recall Expands to Target, Wal-Mart, GNC, Starbucks

The recall of products containing peanut butter and other nut butters sold by many retailers under many labels has more than doubled to 240 products, with the FDA reporting a "fast-moving outbreak" of salmonella-induced sickness in 19 states.

Responding to what it called a "fast-moving outbreak" of salmonella-caused sickness in at least 19 states including three cases in Connecticut, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Friday that the company recall of nut butter products made by Sunland Inc. and sold under many labels has more than doubled to at least 240 products. The recall list includes several well-known brands and a variety of peanut butter products as well as almond butter, cashew butter, tahini and roasted blanched peanut products.
