Salisbury Residents Asked to Notify Township of Structure Damage from Sandy

Information about structural damage from Hurricane Sandy will help Salisbury Township if FEMA or PEMA conduct damage assessments to determine whether the township qualifies for disaster assistance.

Salisbury Township is seeking information from residents who have sustained structural damages due to Hurricane Sandy. This information will be helpful in the event the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) or the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) conduct damage assessments to determine whether the township qualifies for disaster assistance. Residents who wish to notify the township of property damage may email the township at info@salisburytownshippa.org or call 610-797-4000.

As Temperature Drops, Residents Urged to Seek Shelter

Throughout the Northeast, a rapid temperature drop is forcing residents left without heat or power from Hurricane Sandy to seek shelter.

Plummeting temperatures are forcing many people to scramble for shelter after their homes were left without heat from Hurricane Sandy. Temperatures in Salisbury Township are expected to drop to the low 30s tonight, according to the National Weather Service. One death in the Lehigh Valley has already been attributed to hypothermia. Lehigh University has advised students to seek shelter if their dorm rooms lack heat. People using generators are urged to use caution. One death has been attributed to carbon monoxide poisoning, with several additional people treated for poisoning throughout the Valley The Red Cross also has an App that will help you locate a shelter near you.  Currently, public shelters are available at the following locations…

Police Chief Gives Timeline on Hurricane Sandy Response

As Hurricane Sandy threatened the Lehigh Valley, Salisbury Township officials mobilized.

Salisbury Township Police Chief Allen Stiles provided the following timeline for the township's response to Hurricane Sandy: Monday, Oct. 29: 7 a.m. Beginning at 7 Monday morning (10/29/12), the Salisbury Township Police Department initiated an emergency operation condition and deployed additional patrol units and supervisory personnel. Throughout the day, our admin staff fielded calls from the public with requests for storm related information along with our normal call volume. We began receiving and responding to storm related incidents at 1250 hrs. 3 p.m. The Salisbury Township Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and Township Emergency Management Group was activated. More Than 5,700 Without Power in Salisbury

Hurricane Sandy downed trees and utility lines, knocking out power to more than 5,700 customers in Salisbury Township.

Hurricane Sandy's fury downed trees and utility lines, knocking out power to more than 5,700 PPL customers in Salisbury Township. Police, fire and public works department employees worked through the night clearing roads from tree debris, said Township Manager Randy Soriano, who also lost power in his home and at the township building. Residents reported more than 40 fallen trees, Soriano said.  Marhlon Kleintop on Herbert Street was one of those residents, who also lost power along with thousands of his neighbors on the East side and South Mountain area of the township. PPL Offering Free Water, Ice to Those Without Power

Customers of PPL Electric Utilities who are still experiencing a power outage due to Hurricane Sandy may receive up to three 10-pound bags of ice and three gallons of water daily.

Customers of PPL Electric Utilities who are still experiencing a power outage due to Hurricane Sandy can receive free ice and water from some area supermarkets. PPL customers may receive up to three 10-pound bags of ice and three gallons of water daily. Just identify yourself as a PPL Electric Utilities customer at the time of purchase. As of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to PPL's outage map, there are 5,975 customers in Salisbury Township without power. If you cannot find a vendor in your area, you may purchase your ice and water supply from any vendor and PPL will reimburse you for up to the daily maximum amount noted above. Salisbury Township Schools Closed Monday and Tuesday

No school for Salisbury Township students Monday and Tuesday as Hurricane Sandy hits the Lehigh Valley

Salisbury Township school officials have cancelled classes for Monday and Tuesday because of Hurricane Sandy, according to the district's website. The Swain School and St. Thomas More School are closed Monday and Tuesday. Lehigh Christian Academy and the Arts Academy Charter School are closed Monday.
