David Rapoport admitted to killing Jennifer Snyder in March.
David Rapoport, the former Lower Macungie married veterinarian accused in the slaying of his pregnant girlfriend, Jennifer Snyder, today pleaded guilty to killing her and their unborn son in Lehigh County Court, according to Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin. An autopsy determined that Snyder, 27, of Lower Macungie, was in her first trimester of pregnancy and that the fetus was a boy. DNA tests later determined that Rapoport was the father of the unborn child, Martin said in a release. Martin said he would not pursue the death penalty, and that Rapoport's plea agreement called for life in prison on both counts of murder. Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said Friday he would seek the death penalty for David Rapoport, the married veterinarian who has been charged with shooting his girlfriend, Jennifer Snyder, and their unborn child to death in March. As his mother, Nancy Rapoport, sat quietly sobbing for the duration of the proceeding, David Rapoport pleaded not guilty at his formal arraignment before Judge Robert L. Steinberg. Steinberg read the two charges which include criminal homicide of Snyder, the veterinary technician with whom he worked for several years, with a 9mm handgun in the head and back. David Rapoport, the veterinarian who stands accused of killing his pregnant lover, Jennifer Snyder, in March, made a brief appearance in Lehigh County Courtroom 1C Thursday to waive his preliminary hearing. He will be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. June 10 in Lehigh County Courtroom 4A before Judge Robert Steinberg. He plans to plead not guilty, his lawyers said. Wearing faded navy blue prison issue and with hands and feet shackled, Rapoport shuffled into court and sat between lawyers John "Jake" Griffin of Philadelphia and Allentown's John Waldron.
