Widening Route 22 Won't Fix Our Traffic Problems

A better solution: investing that money in LANTA.

Bruce E. Davis of the Route 22 Coalition brings us the latest bad idea from the 2000's that should have been put out of its misery when the housing bubble popped. Mr. Davis has long been an advocate for widening Route 22 to a 6-lane freeway between 15th Street and Airport Road, but Ed Rendell's "fix it first" policy for infrastructure mercifully ended that idea's prospects for a while. But now, Tom Corbett's Transportation Funding Advisory Commission appears to have put the issue back in play, and local sprawl boosters are giddy. LANTA to Install New Bus Stop Signs

LANTA will install more than 200 bus stop shelters throughout Lehigh County over the next five years as part of its new development plan.

LANTA officials met with the Salisbury Township Planning Commission Tuesday to give an update on a major development plan for their bus routes in Lehigh County. LANTA Planning Director Owen O’Neil said the plan, called Move LANTA Forward, includes installing new signs at all their bus stops in Salisbury Township over the next year to make them more consistent and more easily identifiable. O’Neil also said the new bus stop signs will provide helpful information on bus route schedules. A phone number will be placed on the sign so riders can call to get bus schedules, as well as the status of an approaching bus. LANTA will install more than 200 bus stop shelters in various locations around Lehigh County over the next five years,  O’Neil said…

LANTA Route 210 Rerouted in Western Salisbury

Salisbury commissioners approve proposed revised bus Route 210 route.

The Salisbury Board of Commissioners Thursday approved a LANTA proposal to restructure bus Route 210 in Western Salisbury. The proposal is part of a major strategic program the transit agency is conducting to redesign all of their bus routes. The official restructures are scheduled to take effect by August 29, 2011. LANTA planning director Owen P. O’Neil announced that Route 210, which currently serves Lehigh Street and the South Mall, was redesigned to provide enough schedule time to serve the areas surrounding Devonshire Park Apartments on 33rd Street SW and DevonHouse Assisted Living of Allentown on Bevin Drive.  “Anyone can use the service,” O’Neil said. “We expect that groups that will particularly benefit from the service are the …
