Meet County Candidates Friday at Tea Party Program

The Lehigh Valley Tea Party will host candidates running for Lehigh County executive and commissioner on Friday.

The Lehigh Valley Tea Party's monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Friday will include two programs at the Charles Chrin Community Center in Palmer Township. State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe will speak on proposed HB357 which would nullify any new federal gun control laws and make any attempt to enforce them a felony. Metcalfe will also discuss HB671—“Constitutional Carry.” Immediately after Metcalfe's presentation, those in attendance will have a chance to meet local candidates running in the May primary. Tom Muller to Run For Lehigh County Executive

Democrat Tom Muller, of Lower Macungie, announced Wednesday at a press conference in Emmaus that he will run for Lehigh County's top job.

Democrat Tom Muller, the director of administration for Lehigh County, announced Wednesday that he is a candidate for Lehigh County Executive.  Muller, who held senior positions at large companies in the Lehigh Valley before moving into the public sector, is the first Democrat to enter the race. He announced his candidacy at the Triangle in Emmaus. Muller, of Lower Macungie, has been the county's director of administration for seven years, serving with former county Executive Don Cunningham to manage a $400 million budget and 12 negotiations with collective bargaining units, according to a prepared release. Scott Ott Will Run Again for County Executive

After a narrow miss in 2009, Scott Ott runs again for Lehigh County's top job.

Scott Ott, 51, a fiscally conservative Republican, told supporters and friends on Jan 24 that he will again run Lehigh County Commissioner in the fall. Ott is making his second attempt for the county's top job which narrowly eluded him in 2009 when, as an unknown, he came within 900 votes of beating seasoned Democratic politico Don Cunningham. Bill Hansell Sworn in as Lehigh County Executive

New Lehigh County Executive's first official act was to present the 2013 budget that includes a tax credit of about $44 for homeowners.

Bill Hansell was sworn in as Lehigh County Executive on Tuesday and immediately set to work as he delivered the 2013 budget to county commissioners. The Lower Macungie resident said the $365 million budget will provide a onetime expiring tax credit of about $44 to county homeowners. Real estate taxes will remain at 11.9 mils, based on valuations prior to Lehigh County’s reassessment, which is expected to be complete at the end of November. 5 Seeking Job of Lehigh County Executive

Five candidates have applied for the position of Lehigh County executive, vacated by Don Cunningham earlier this month, according to the Express-Times.

Four men and one woman are vying to be chosen as Lehigh County executive to replace Don Cunningham, who left earlier this month to become head of the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp. The county commissioners will vote on who to choose to fill out Cunningham's term but the person must be of the same party as Cunningham, a Democrat.  According to a report by the Express-Times, the applicants are:  -- Matthew Croslis, an Allentown-based attorney who owns a real estate company and title insurance company.
