A fire that roared through an Emmaus apartment house Sunday left four people dead and investigators searching for the cause of the blaze.
Investigators continue probing the cause of a ferocious fire that killed four people as it consumed an Emmaus duplex at 36-38 S. Fifth St. on Sunday. Linda J. Knauss, 65, of Orefield died from complications caused by a gunshot wound during a robbery in Harrisburg 30 years ago, according to the Lehigh County Coroner's office.
A Lehigh County woman's death last week was ruled a homicide from complications from a gunshot wound she suffered 30 years ago during an attempted robbery, according to the Lehigh County Coroner's office. The coroner's office launched an investigation into death of Linda J. Knauss, 65, 5268 Baldwin Lane, Orefield, after it got a cremation request from the funeral home. Knauss died Feb. 18 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Salisbury Township. "Based on the cause of death listed, our office opened an investigation as the cause of death appeared to be trauma related," according to a news release issued Wednesday by the coroner's office. Gov. Tom Corbett helped break ground Thursday for a new Cetronia Joint Operations Facility near the Lehigh County Sports Fields in South Whitehall. The 68,000-square-foot facility -- formally known as the Cetronia Ambulance and Lehigh County Joint Operations and Medico-Legal Forensics Center -- will house Cetronia Ambulance’s fleet, a regional education center and the Lehigh County coroner's office. Identity is still unknown of a woman burned alive Dec. 27 on Chestnut Hill Road in Salisbury Township.
The identity of Jane Doe, the woman found suffocated and burned to death Dec. 27 on a wooded residential road in Salisbury Township, could soon be confirmed, according to Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim. Grim said his office is waiting to get DNA results, which could be later this week or next. The coroner's office released the following description of the woman: She may have been wearing: Police continue to request any information from the public that might help them in the investigation, "no matter how insignificant it might seem," they said. The Lehigh County coroner is trying to find the next of kin of an Allentown man who died Saturday
Anyone with information about the relatives of Raymond Rudd, Sr. -- a 52-year-old Allentown man who died Saturday -- is asked to contact the Lehigh County coroner's office at 610-782-3426. Rudd died at Sacred Heart Hospital. He lived at 122 N. 11th Street in Allentown. An autopsy was performed Monday but cause of death is pending results of toxicology tests, according to the coroner's office.

Police are investigating the "suspicious' death of a 5-year-old Allentown boy who died Friday
Police are investigating the death of an Allentown child found unresponsive in his home Thursday night. Cashmiere Hill, 5, of 107 N. 12th St., was not breathing so his mother called 911 about 9 p.m. Thursday. He was pronounced dead at 2:31 a.m. Friday at Lehigh Valley Hospital. An autopsy was performed Friday morning but the Lehigh County coroner's office issued a statement saying the boy's cause and manner of death are pending further investigation. The death is being termed "suspicious." The coroner's office and Allentown police are investigating, with assistance from the Lehigh County district attorney.

Jordan Steinmetz, 14, was struck on Schantz Road in Upper Macungie Friday night and killed. Berks-Lehigh Regional Police are investigating.
A 14-year-old boy who had been apparently trick-or-treating was hit and killed by a vehicle Friday evening on Schantz Road in Upper Macungie. Jordan Steinmetz, of Lisa Court, Upper Macungie, was pronounced dead at 11:45 p.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, according to the Lehigh County Coroner's Office. Berks-Lehigh Regional Police said the boy was in costume, walking west on Schantz Road with another boy, when he was struck by a SUV also travelling west on Schantz Road, according to a preliminary investigation. The accident happened at 8:20 p.m. in the area of Balsam Street and Cottonwood Road. The coroner's office said the accident happened in front of 6429 Schantz Road. A 26-year-old Slatington mother is charged with shooting to death her 19-month-old son while he was in his crib. Holly Pallone, of 214 N. Walnut St., is charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment. Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim said the toddler, Anthony F. Pallone, was pronounced dead at the residence at 214 N. Walnut St. at 12:47 a.m. Sunday. The coroner ruled the death a homicide and attributed his death to a gunshot wound. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. The Lehigh County coroner's office is searching for the next of kin of an 83-year-old man who died of natural causes. Robert Downing, 83, of Lenhartsville, died at 1:04 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, the coroner's office said in a release. Anyone with information on Downing's family is asked to contact the Lehigh County Coroner's Office at 610-782-3426.
