The end of the world is upon us...again. On Dec. 21, 2012, according to the Mayan calendar, the world is coming to an end (depending on who you ask). People are nervous. They're joining Facebook groups, they're forming prepping communities. There are websites with prepping gear to help you get ready for the end of the world. And of course, preppers have their own show, "Doomsday Preppers." Does the talk of Dec. 21 give you chills? Do you believe that the Mayan calendar predicts our demise? NASA scientists aren't worried. According to the NASA website, the only thing that will happen on Dec. 21 is the winter solstice. The website also compared the lack of dates on the Mayan calendar to the lack of dates on current calendars. "Just as the calendar you have on your kitchen wall does not cease to exist after December 31, the Mayan calendar does not cease to exist on December 21, 2012. This date is the end of the Mayan long-count period but then -- just as your calendar begins again on January 1 -- another long-count period begins for the Mayan calendar." Someone must not have went to college... Prepping for the end of the world is a much crazier idea than trying to get yourself educated so you can prosper later in life. Also, if you knew anything about science, you would know that being open-minded *while* (key word) skeptical is one of the most important things a scientist can do.   more ›
