PPL Upgrades Should Help Keep the Lights on in Salisbury

Planned upgrades to the main power line connecting PPL’s regional electric transmission lines to the Emmaus substation should help alleviate extended post-storm power outages.

If you are one of the PPL Electric Utilities customers who lost your electricity for an extended period in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, or the infamous Halloween snowstorm of 2011, listen up. There’s some good news coming from PPL. PPL is about to undertake a $2.8 million project that will rebuild and “storm harden” the main power-line connecting PPL’s regional electric transmission lines to the Emmaus substation off Furnace Street, near S. 10th Street in Emmaus, according to a PPl press release. The line, which runs through a wooded area, serves nearly 7,000 homes and businesses in the Salisbury and Emmaus areas. The rebuilt line will be taller and constructed on sturdier poles with stronger wires, according to the release, which …

Warning: Beware of PPL Imposters at Your Door

PPL Electric Utilities reminds area residents that it does not engage in telemarketing or door-to-door sales for the purpose of encouraging residential customers to switch energy suppliers.

PPL Electric Utilities is echoing the Pennsylvania Attorney General's warning to beware of telemarketers or door-to-door salesmen who may be claiming to be PPL employees. There has been a rash of overly aggressive and dishonest sales pitches in several Pennsylvania communities, said Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane. "In some recent incidents, sales people have been pushing consumers into choosing high-cost electric generation services," Kane said in a press release. "We encourage consumers to make sure they have carefully weighed the offer, and that they are dealing with legitimate energy suppliers before sharing account information and agreeing to switch providers." PPL is reinforcing some key points about its business and its employees …

PPL Says 600 More Workers Added to Storm Restoration Force

PPL adds hundreds more workers to Lehigh Valley crews to try to restore all power by 11 p.m. Sunday.

PPL Electric Utilities says it is pouring more manpower into eastern Pennsylvania for a final push this weekend to repair the devastation left by Hurricane Sandy. Approximately 600 additional line workers, now finished working in other areas of the PPL Electric Utilities service territory, arrived Friday and Saturday to supplement the existing army of repair crews. The additional crews bring the total work force in the eastern part of the state to 2,500. While power is now restored to more than 85 percent of the PPL Electric Utilities customers affected by the massive storm, the utility’s commitment to getting the lights back on as safely and as quickly as possible until the last customer is restored will not waver. “We continue to pull in…

More Than 5,000 Without Power in Salisbury

Electricity has been restored to more than 2,800 PPL customers in Salisbury Township, but 5,000 are still in the dark after Saturday's rare October snowstorm.

Salisbury Township was among the hardest hit areas of the rare October snowstorm that walloped Lehigh County, getting as much as 14 inches of snow and knocking out power to more than 8,000 people, according to authorities. Power had been restored to about 2,800 home as of 9:30 a.m. Monday,  according to PPL's outage map. In scenes reminiscent of Tropical Storm Irene two months ago, many roads were blocked by downed trees, although this time due to the weight of snow on branches that still had leaves. Some of the same streets were closed in this storm, including Honeysuckle Road, between Stonesthrow Road in Upper Saucon Township and Emmaus Avenue in Salisbury. PennDOT also closed Seidersville Road and Susquehanna Street, between Trapps Lane…

PPL Program can Help you Save on Your Utility Bill

Signing up for special plan and timing your electricity usage can qualify you for lower rates.

True or false? Restricting electricity usage primarily to the evening hours can lower energy bills. True AND false! Rumor has it that this is true. However, after doing a little research, the fact of the matter is that electricity consumers must first REGISTER for a PPL program to receive these savings on their monthly bill. Shelly, a customer service representative at PPL Electric Utilities was kind enough to explain the program called “Residential Time-of-Use (TOU) Option.” When you register for this program, you can save money by shifting electricity use away from peak hours when the prices are usually highest. Starting on June 1, “summer hours” begin. This lasts through September. If you’re a current PPL customer, simply call the PPL …
