Last-minute rush expected for Powerball tickets today with record-high jackpot at stake

Driven by high-volume ticket sales, The Powerball® jackpot has grown to a $500 million annuity value, or a $327.4 million cash prize, for the Wednesday, Nov. 28 drawing.  The jackpot had previously stood at a Powerball game-record $425 million annuity, or a $278.3 million cash prize. Only one U.S. lottery jackpot has ever been larger: the $656 million Mega Millions jackpot on March 30, 2012, which was claimed as a $471 million cash prize.  “Pennsylvania Lottery players are very excited about this record Powerball jackpot, and that excitement is being reflected in our ticket sales,” said Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Todd Rucci.“We urge our players to purchase their Powerball tickets early to avoid a last-minute rush, and to …

We have a lottery pool at work and invest $3 per person per month on the Mega Millions lottery. Well, not doing so well this year so we took our small winnings and bought Powerball tickets for tonight. Hopefully we win, Momma needs a new pair of shoes.   more ›

Wow! Wednesday's Powerball Prize is $425 Million

Powerball has reached a near-record prize of $425 million for Wednesday's drawing

As the Powerball® jackpot has reached a game-record $425 million annuity value, or a $278.3 million cash prize, for the Wednesday, Nov. 28 drawing, the Pennsylvania Lottery today reminded its customers to play responsibly.  Only one U.S. lottery jackpot has ever been larger: the $656 million Mega Millions jackpot on March 30, 2012, which was claimed as a $471 million cash prize. The current Powerball jackpot run began Oct. 6 and there have been 15 consecutive draws without a jackpot winner.  A $2 million Powerball ticket was sold in the Lehigh Valley last month. Through Nov. 25, the Pennsylvania Lottery has seen more than $58 million in Powerball and Powerplay sales for the current jackpot run. Considering about 30 cents of each dollar …

PA Lottery May Become Privately Managed

Terms for a potential PA Lottery private management agreement are in the works, according to an e-mail from the governor's office

Editor's note: To read the terms of agreement and a document including a list of frequently asked questions about the agreement, click on the attached PDF files. The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue will announce later today the terms for a potential private management agreement for the Pennsylvania Lottery -- a deal that reportedly would call for a $150 million upfront payment “to be provided by a private manager," according to an email sent by Gov. Tom Corbett’s office. Canon-McMillan Patch has obtained a copy of the email in which Andrew J. Ritter Jr., the governor’s executive deputy secretary, said the commonwealth would retain ownership and control of the lottery. The commonwealth would continue to handle specific business …

Oh, in case anyone forgot, Rendell was going to outsource the turnpike to a Spanish company. And Corbett to outsource the lottery to an English company. Not that I have anything against the Spanish or English, I'd rather we keep things here in America.   more ›
