$2M Winning Lottery Ticket Sold in Lehigh County

The Hess station in Orefield sold another winning Powerball ticket, its third large jackpot-winning ticket, including a $1 million ticket in March and $371,000 ticket in February.

A Hess station in Orefield sold another winning Powerball ticket—this one worth $2 million from the April 6 drawing, the Pennsylvania Lottery announced Monday. The Hess station at 3640 Route 309 sold a $1 million prize-winning Powerball ticket for the March 23 drawing and a $371,000 ticket in February. The gas station will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling this latest winning ticket. The winner has not been identified, the lottery said. The April 6 winning ticket correctly matched all five white balls, 04-07-08-29-39, but not the red Powerball 24, and added Power Play, which sets the prize at $2 million, less 25 percent federal withholding, according to the lottery website. Without the Power Play option, the prize amount would have been…

British Firm Extends Its Bid to Manage PA Lotto

An extension filed through Friday will allow Corbett more time to consider options.

Gov. Tom Corbett's chance to accept a bid from a British firm to manage the Pennyslvania lottery was about to run out. Had it not extended its offer, the firm's $3.5-billion bid would have expired Saturday at 5 p.m. According to 6ABC, a "top budget aide to Gov. Tom Corbett" has announced the extension. The extra time is designed to allow Corbett's office more time to consider options. The changes come on the heels of last week's announcement by Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane who rejected Corbett' initial plan. "It is our duty to defend and protect the Constitution of our Commonwealth and that is what our office has done by declining this contract," Kane said on Friday.  "She said the contract infringes on the Legislature's …

Privatize Pa. Lottery? Voters Say No

Could privatizing the lottery mean fewer people will play?

Pennsylvanians do not want their lottery to be privatized, as Gov. Tom Corbett is proposing, according to a new Franklin & Marshall College Poll. The poll found that 47 percent of those polled strongly opposed the privatization with 17 somewhat opposing it. Only 7 percent were strongly in favor with 11 percent being somewhat in favor of the move. Most people polled, 75 percent, said they would play the lottery about the same amount as they do now if it were privatized, but a not insignificant number of people, 19 said they would play less frequently. The Franklin & Marshall College Poll interviewed 622 Pennsylvania voters between January 29 and February 3. The margin of error is reported as plus or minus 3.9 percentage points. A recent …

Anyone who wants to support privitazation of the lottery is crazy. Outsourcing Pennsylvania jobs to a foreign company is un-American. Camelot will run away the second it's time to pay the fiddler.   more ›

PA Lottery Gets Just 1 Bid for Private Management

A British company is the only bidder that has offered to manage the Pennsylvania Lottery

By Melissa Daniels | PA Independent HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania’s pursuit of privatizing management of the state lottery yielded only one interested party. The state received a bid from Camelot Global Services, which runs the National Lottery in the United Kingdom. Camelot estimates it would bring annual profit commitment of $12.1 billion in the first 10 years. Projections for a 20-year period, assuming a 27 percent mandated rate of return, would yield more than $34 billion in profits, according to the official bid tabulation.
