5 Will Run for 4 Salisbury School Board Seats

All five candidates in Tuesday's Salisbury School Board primary will advance to the general election.

Four challengers and one incumbent will all advance to the Salisbury School Board general election, according to unofficial results. The five candidates will compete for four seats. Incumbent Mary Ziegler was the top vote-getter overall with 358 votes from Republicans and 281 from Democrats. Challengers Robert Fischer (347 GOP, 255 Dem votes) and Audrey Frick (359 GOP, 261 Dem votes) will also appear on both the Republican and Democratic ballots in November. Challenger Christopher Spedaliere (283 votes) will appear on the Republican ballot. Challenger Chad Gleissl (236 votes) will appear on the Democratic ballot. All candidates were cross filed except for Spedaliere, who ran only as a Republican.

Candidates for Salisbury School Board in Tuesday's primary include a teenage high school student.

Tuesday's primary features a Salisbury Township candidate who may be the youngest person on the ballot across Lehigh County in this election. Chad Gleissl, a junior at Salisbury High School, is one of five candidates running for four school board seats, each with a four-year-term. How Much Will Your School Taxes Go Up for 2013-14?

The Salisbury School Board approved a 2013-14 proposed final budget of more than $31 million.

Salisbury Township School Board directors will likely raise real estate taxes by 2.2 percent after approving the district's 2013-2014 proposed final budget Wednesday night. The district's budget reflects total expenditures in the amount of $31,398,872, requiring a real estate tax levy of 16.8708 mills. Directors could have elected to take the maximum 2.99 percent tax increase. Salisbury Township School District Business Administrator Robert Bruchak said a $740,000 budget gap was whittled down to $182,838. That gap, Bruchak said, will be covered by the district's fund balance, which currently stands at $2.1 million. "It's not a big hit. We have a healthy fund balance," Bruchak said. Who's Running for Salisbury School Board?

Five candidates—four of them cross filed—are running for four seats on the Salisbury School Board in Tuesday's primary election.

Tuesday's primary election features a race for four Salisbury School Board seats with five candidates, four of whom are cross-filed. There are four challengers and one incumbent. Each seat is for a four-year term. The race includes what may be the Lehigh Valley's youngest candidate in the primary—Chad Gleissl, a junior at Salisbury High School. The top four vote getters on each ticket will advance to the general election. If the same four candidates are the top vote getters on both the Republican and Democratic ballots, then the election will essentially be decided in the primary barring any write-in campaigns in the fall. State Championship Swim Team Feted by School Board

The Salisbury School Board honored the accomplishments of the high school boys swim team, which won the first state title in school history earlier this year.

Salisbury School Board directors honored a Salisbury High School athletic team that made school history earlier this year. School officials recently honored the PIAA 2A state championship boys swim team. The boys swim team became the first Salisbury High School athletic team to win a PIAA state championship in any sport. The manner in which the Falcon swim team, under the direction of first-year coach Jason Reinhard, won the title will also be etched in school lore. Trailing by one point entering the final event, the 400-meter relay team of Jon Dakota Anderson, Tim Costantini, Garrett Collins and Eric Tatum took the event to secure the gold medal.
