Eastern Salisbury Fire Co. chief asked commissioners for more money to help pay for fire equipment.
After a last minute appeal from Eastern Salisbury Fire Company for a larger allocation in the 2012 budget, the Salisbury Township board of commissioners voted unanimously to propose a .25-mill increase to the township’s fire apparatus tax. If approved, the increase will bring the fire tax to .55 mills, the equivalent of an additional $25 from each taxpayer, or an additional $125,000 to the fund used for fire equipment. For this year’s general operating fund, “we asked for $12,500 and only got $8,000,” said Eastern Salisbury Assistant Fire Chief and President Dave Tomcics. “This year we have foregone $6,000 in repairs because the money isn’t in the budget.” “We spend over 8,000 hours donating our time to help the residents,” said Tomcics. …

Salisbury Township commissioners produce balanced budget proposal without tax increase.
Salisbury Township police officers filled normally empty chairs at the board of commissioners meeting last week to show support for their department’s 2012 budget requests. Police Chief Allen W. Stiles has asked for an additional four-wheel drive vehicle and an additional officer to fill an expected vacancy in the 19-man police force. Township Manager Randy Soriano presented the board with a proposed 2012 budget that won't raise taxes but left the police department’s requests partially filled. Salisbury Township officials are working on the 2012 budget and are trying to avoid a tax increase, Township Manager Randy Soriano said during the workshop following the Sept. 22 board meeting. Officials had no budget numbers to release.
