Giant Food Stores, LLC and Martin's Food Markets announced Monday that they have removed from sale several varieties of smoked salmon due to possible contamination by listeria monocytogenes. The announcement followed a recall by products sold by Ocean Beauty Seafoods LLC. The following products are included in the recall: • Nathan’s Nova Salmon, 3 oz., UPC 7303080368, all sell by dates • Nathan’s Nova Salmon, 8 oz., UPC 7303080369, all sell by dates • Lascco Smoked Salmon, 3 oz., UPC 7284001703, all sell by dates Giant said in a press release that it has received no reports of illnesses to date. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Monday that it has blocked food distribution from the Sunland Inc. peanut butter plant in New Mexico whose products were subject to a wide recall in recent months because of salmonella contamination. The various types of Sunland peanut butter products – sold under several brands by major food retailers, including Giant, Trader Joe's, Safeway and Whole Foods – had been part of a voluntary recall that began in September and later was expanded. Information from the Food and Drug Administration: Nestlé USA announced the voluntary recall of limited quantities of Nestlé NESQUIK® Chocolate Powder in the 10.9, 21.8 and 40.7 ounce canisters. The voluntary recall is limited to only NESQUIK Chocolate Powder, which was distributed nationally. No other varieties of NESQUIK powder or any sizes or flavors of NESQUIK ready-to-drink are affected by this recall. Nestlé is removing the canisters from distribution because the company was notified by an ingredient supplier, Omya Inc. that it has issued a recall of certain lots of its ingredient, calcium carbonate due to possible presence of Salmonella. A recall that began with a contaminated batch of peanut butter sold at Trader Joe's and which expanded to other stores, has now expanded again. The recall now includes raw and roasted in-shell and shelled peanuts, Sunland Inc. announced Friday in a news release posted on the Food and Drug Administration website... The FDA has posted a searchable database of all products recalled in connection with the original peanut butter recall. The nuts were processed in the Sunland Peanut Processing Plant in Portales, N.M. The same plant processed the two Trader Joe's Valencia Peanut Butter varieties linked to an outbreak of salmonella bradeney, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A peanut butter recall that began at Trader Joe's last weekend was expanded Monday to more than 100 peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter and Tahini and roasted blanched peanut products made by Sunland Inc.'s Portales, N.M. plant. J.M. Smucker Co. is recalling 3,000 16-ounce jars of its Smucker's Chunky Natural Peanut Butter because of possible salmonella contamination. Some of the product was distributed in Pennsylvania. The peanut butter would have been purchased from Nov. 8 through Nov. 17 of this year. The recalled jars of peanut butter: Smuckers says no illnesses have been reported. Salmonella is bacteria resulting in fever, cramps and diarrhea that lasts for several days and can require hospitalization.
