Winter Storm Nemo: How Much Snow Will We Get?

Salisbury is bracing for Winter Storm Nemo, which could bring six to 10 inches of snow today into Saturday morning

A major winter storm will hit the Northeast and New England today into Saturday and Salisbury could get six to 10 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service. The worst of the storm will hit tonight with heavy blowing snow expected. The National Weather Service says: "As much as one to two feet of snow is forecast from the New York City metro area to Maine, with localized heavier amounts possible. This, in addition to wind gusts as high as 60-75 mph will create significant impacts to transportation and power. Coastal flooding is also possible from Boston northward." WFMZ is also forecasting six or more inches of snow for Salisbury and areas east. A foot or more of snow will probably fall in the Poconos to the delight of ski …

Winter Parking Could Be Restricted on East Side

Snow plows, emergency crews and public works department trucks have difficulty driving through many congested, narrow streets in Eastern Salisbury.

Residents who live in the warren of congested, narrow streets in Eastern Salisbury Township made worse during snow storms may soon have to comply with new parking restrictions in winter. Salisbury Township Police Chief Alan Stiles and Public Works Department Director John Andreas are considering up to 14 options for zones with limited or no parking and changes to the snow emergency ordinance. Stiles said numerous narrow streets on the east side become impassable for fire trucks, snow plows and public works department trucks when it snows. "These are hazardous conditions we wanted to eliminate or alleviate," Stiles told the board of commissioners at a recent workshop. "Especially in a winter storm. It's difficult to get in a large fire …

Deep Freeze All Week in Salisbury, Snow on Friday

Daytime highs will be well below freezing all week in Salisbury Township, while the National Weather Service also calls for the potential for "plowable snowfall" on Friday.

An arctic air mass is bringing Salisbury Township and the rest of the Lehigh Valley the longest period of cold weather it has seen in two years. There's snow in the forecast along with a big chill that will keep daytime high temperatures from rising out of the 20s for the rest of the week. The daytime high temperature is not expected to go above the freezing mark until Monday, according to the National Weather Service. Today is the most frigid day in the forecast, as the high temperature is expected to be 20 degrees with a wind chill factor that will make it feel like less than zero. Tonight's low, like Tuesday's, is expected to be in the single digits. Friday's forecast is calling for a low pressure system that has the potential to bring…

Major Snowstorm Could Hit Eastern Pa. Next Week

Forecasters are keeping a close eye on computer models that show a big snowstorm could be headed to eastern Pennsylvania around Dec. 19-20

Update 11 a.m. Thursday: WFMZ reports a storm is looking increasingly likely for Tuesday-Wednesday but the big question is whether it will be rain or snow. The National Weather Service predicts a chance of rain/snow on Tuesday night. Original Story: It could be much more than a White Christmas if the Lehigh Valley gets one to two feet of snow next week. The Eastern Pa. Weather Authority says a potentially "monstrous" storm is showing up on a European weather model, according to the following post on the group's Facebook page: Update on next week's storm potential.... this is as monstrous of a storm you can get just about, as modeled on today's 12z European model run. This would be, if correct, a "KU" storm... or one for the history books. …

Lehigh Valley Weather Patrol Predicts Lots of Snow

Weather watchers Bobby and Suzy have a fast-growing fan base

Starting your own weather service seems a bit like creating your own mail delivery – the kind of thing only new countries and millionaire businessmen do. Bobby Martrich and Susan Haberacker are neither but they managed to launch the “Lehigh Valley Weather Patrol with Bobby and Suzy” 11 months ago and have seen it grow by great gusts. The Weather Patrol, which issues forecasts from its Facebook page, has more than 4,300 fans. Its popularity has encouraged Martrich and Haberacker, both 35, to move the Weather Patrol to its own web site in January and sell advertisements to offset costs and make money for their labors. The business partners plan to drop their names from the title when it moves to www.lehighvalleyweatherpatrol.com   Even after…

The temperature will drop to about 34 tonight and we could see snow falling before 8 a.m. Saturday.
