St. Thomas School Fundraiser is 'An Irish Gathering'

St. Thomas More School gym in Salisbury Township was transformed into an Irish Pub Saturday night for Destination Education 2013 fund-raiser.

It was "An Irish Gathering" at St. Thomas More School Saturday night as the school gym was tranformed into an Irish pub—complete with pub tables made from wine barrels and a bar facade created by parishioner Bob Elward. There were stepdancers from the Accent School of Dance, bagpiping by James Ruhf, acoustic Irish music by Tim Clark and Irish songs by The Four Leaf Clovers. The Destination Education 2013 gala, which included a silent auction and live auction, raises funds for St. Thomas More School programs.  Master of ceremonies was Jerry Joyce. Kindergarten Registration at St. Thomas More School

Registration of kindergarten and transfer students at St. Thomas More School will be held Jan. 27.

Registration of kindergarten and transfer students to St. Thomas More School will be Sunday, Jan. 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Registration packets will be available in the school offices prior to and on registration day. In order for the registration to be accepted, a copy of your child's birth certificate, baptismal certificate (if not baptized at STM) and immunization record must accompany the registration.   If you have any questions on kindergarten and first grade registration, please call 610-432-4525 x2. For questions on second- through eighth-grade registration, please call 610-432-0396 x1.

St. Thomas More School Dismisses Early Due to Water Main Break

Parents may pick up their children at any time today at St. Thomas More School due to a water main break.

Updated at 12:50 p.m. St. Thomas More School issued the following notice: A break in the main water line that provides water for the entire St. Thomas More School campus requires immediate repair, which in turn requires us to close the school early today. Our goal is to have everyone dismissed by 12:30 this afternoon. St. Thomas More Walkathon Postponed to Monday

The rains expected Friday will make the soccer field too wet and muddy for the St. Thomas More Walkathon.

The St. Thomas More School Walkathon scheduled for today has been postponed to 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22. The forecast calls for rain today, which would create wet and muddy conditions on the soccer field where the walkathon is scheduled. Friday will be a regular school day and school uniforms are to be worn, according to Principal Peter Schutzler.

St. Thomas More Students To Get iPads

St. Thomas More School will begin the first phase of its iPad initiative in the 2012-2013 school year.

St. Thomas More School students will be provided with iPads under a new technology plan that will begin this fall, according to school officials. “Information technology is vital to the mission and function of St. Thomas More School enhancing teaching and learning and supporting the function of the school," Principal Peter Schutzler said in an e-mail to Patch. The school will roll out the iPads in phases. For the 2012-2013 school year, students in first, second, fifth and sixth grades will be issued a school-owned iPad. Each kindergarten classroom will get five iPads to be used in small groups. Students in seventh and eighth grades will use iPads in the social studies classroom. St. Thomas More Student Gets Poem Published

Anna D. Sixsmith, a 13-year-old St. Thomas More School student, was among the winners of a national poetry contest and was published in an anthology.

Anna D. Sixsmith, a seventh-grader at St. Thomas More School in Salisbury Township, was recently named among the winners of a national poetry contest and as a result, her poem was published in an anthology, "A Celebration of Poets." Sixsmith's poem, "Rain," was among the poems that Language Arts teacher Peggy Herman submitted from seventh and eighth grade students to the Poetic Power National Poetry Contest.  Thousands of poems were submitted from across the country and Canada, but Sixsmith, 13, was one of only four seventh-graders to win and the only Pennsylvanian in the grade 7-9 category. The poems were judged for their literary merit, creativity and social significance. Sixsmith won a copy of the anthology and a $25 check, which she …

St. Thomas More Marches in St. Patrick's Day Parade

The St. Thomas More School had perfect weather Sunday to participate in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Allentown.

St. Thomas More School students and parents walked in Allentown's St. Patrick's Day parade Sunday. They joined groups from other schools, including St. Joseph the Worker in Orefield, pipe bands and floats.

St. Thomas More to Open After Labor Day

While some schools are beginning to open before Labor Day, St. Thomas More School says it will continue its practice of a post-Labor Day opening.

St. Thomas More School will continue its practice of a post-Labor Day opening for the 2012-2013 school year, despite the trend among some schools, including Salisbury Township School District, to switch to pre-Labor Day openings. St. Thomas More School, which includes kindergarten through eighth grade, will open Sept. 4, Principal Carl Weber said in an e-mail sent Tuesday to parents. Weber said the school's calendar would remain the same, despite changes in its township's public school district and neighboring East Penn School District. St. Thomas More Student in Top 10 at Mathcounts

Nicholas Carolan, an eighth-grader at St. Thomas More School, finished in seventh place, the school placed fourth overall.

Nicholas Carolan, an eighth grade student at St. Thomas More School in Salisbury Township, took seventh place in the Lehigh Valley Mathcounts regional competition. The school placed fourth overall. Students from The Swain School also participated. The 28th annual event, which attracted 280 middle school competitors from five counties, was held at Trexler Middle School on Saturday, Feb. 4.
