Michael Q. Roth to be Named New Salisbury Superintendent

The Salisbury School Board plans to approve Nazareth Assistant Superintendent Michael Q. Roth to serve a five-year term as Salisbury's superintendent.

The Salisbury Township School Board is expected to appoint Michael Q. Roth as the new superintendent. Roth is currently the Nazareth Area School District assistant superintendent of educational programs. The board will vote on the appointment at a special session tonight before the operations committee meeting. Roth will be offered a five-year term beginning Nov. 1, 2012 and ending June 30, 2017 at a salary of $135,000, according to the school board agenda. Roth will replace Acting Superintendent Louise Beauchemin, who was appointed to the position after Superintendent Robert Gross died May 30. Beauchemin will retire later this month.

Viewing Sunday for School Superintendent Robert Gross

Services for Salisbury Superintendent Robert Gross include a viewing Sunday and funeral Monday in Bethlehem

A viewing will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today in the Pearson Funeral Home, 1901 Linden Street, Bethlehem, for Robert R. Gross, III, 54, of Bethlehem Township, who died Wednesday, May 30, 2012, in St. Luke's Hospice House.  He was the husband of Maryann (Salamone) Gross.  They celebrated their 29th anniversary last June 19. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1817 First Street, Bethlehem, PA 18020, followed by interment in Holy Saviour Cemetery.  Mr. Gross has been Superintendent of Schools in the Salisbury Township School District since 2010, and has been a member of the Adjunct Faculty at Wilkes University since 2006. Salisbury Superintendent Dies

Salisbury Schools District Superintendent Robert R. Gross III died Wednesday from an undisclosed illness after being hospitalized for months.

Salisbury Township School District Superintendent Robert R. Gross III died Wednesday from an undisclosed illness after being hospitalized for months, according to The Morning Call. Gross had been getting round-the-clock care in the intensive care unit after he was admitted in April, according to School Board President Russell Giordano. Assistant Superintendent Louise Beauchemin has been taking on Gross' responsibilities. He leaves his wife, Maryann, a daughter and son and three grandchildren.

School Superintendents Unite Against Charter Schools

As Pennsylvania legislature considers charter schools bill, area superintendents issued a statement condemning lack of oversight and public school funding of cyber and charter schools.

Salisbury Superintendent Makes Case for Public Schools and Digital Technology

First in a series by Salisbury Township School District Superintendent Robert Gross.

In the first of a series of articles published on the Salisbury Township School District website, Superintendent Robert Gross argues for the merits of choosing a public school education over charter schools or a private school education. Gross says the district's new digital technology program, dubbed Teaching and Learning 2014 (TL2014), is not only important and relevant for today's students, it will save the district money.

This effort on the surface appears to save money. However when considering the district has chosen the Apple platform without disclosing to the public any of the PC alternatives as a way of the costs associated, I can only thnk that Gross and Ziegenfuss are only preaching to the choir.
