Bon-Ton Shoplifter Gets Jail and Work Release

King David III was one of two men charged with stealing polo shirts from the Bon-Ton in December and scuffling with Salisbury Township police.

A 28-year-old Bethlehem man charged with stealing polo shirts from the Bon-Ton at the South Mall has been sentenced to five to 23 months in Lehigh County prison, according to a report on lehighvalleylive.com.  King David III, 28, of 557 Ontario St., Bethlehem, and another man were charged in December with the theft and other offenses. Police said the men had tried to flee when approached by Salisbury Township police and fought with the officers in the store's parking lot. David and two Salisbury police officers were injured in the scuffle, police had said. In February, David pleaded guilty to retail theft in a negotiated plea, according to online court records. Bon-Ton Sales Increase for August

The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. announce that store sales increased 2.2 percent for August.

The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. has announced comparable store sales increase 2.2 percent in the four weeks ending Aug. 25. Total sales increased 2.1 percent to $180.8 million in the current year compared with $177.1 million in the prior year period, according to a news statement released by the York, Pa.-based company. The Bon-Ton has a store at South Mall in Salisbury and the Palmer Park Mall in Palmer Township. “We were pleased with our August sales increase and attribute the sequential improvement to our continued efforts to refine our merchandise assortment and to deliver clear, compelling marketing messages," Brendan Hoffman, president and chief executive officer, said in a news statement. The Bon-Ton Suffers Slight Sales Drop for June

The Bon-Ton, which has a store at South Mall, reports sales were off 0.8 percent in June from prior year.

The Bon-Ton Stores Inc., which has a location in South Mall, reported that sales dipped in June compared with the same period a year ago, the company announced in a press release Thursday. Company officials reported that store sales dipped 0.8 percent for June from the previous year while total sales were off 1 percent from $240.8 million to $238.8 million. Overall, The Bon-Ton's figures are down 0.9 percent year to date from the same point last year. "June sales were uneven throughout the month," Brendan Hoffman, The Bon-Ton's president and chief executive, said in a statement. Bon-Ton CEO to Retire

The Bon-Ton's chief executive officer Bud Bergren announced he will retire and become chairman of the board as soon as the company appoints a replacement.

The Bon-Ton's chief executive Bud Bergren announced he will retire and become chairman of the board as soon as the company appoints a replacement, according to The Morning Call. Bergren, 65, became CEO of The Bon-Ton in 2004. The current chairman, Tim Grumbacher, will step down but remain on the board. The recent drop in The Bon-Ton's stock and sales figures were not a factor in Bergren's retirement, a company spokeswoman said in the Express-Times. The Bon-Ton reported sales were down 10 percent in October compared to a year ago. Bon-Ton shares fell 7 cents, or 2 percent, to close $3.45 in Nasdaq trading after the news was announced Monday, according to the Express-Times. The stock's 52-week high is $17.49.
