A man who spent 18 years on Pennsylvania’s "Most Wanted" List has pleaded guilty to a 1994 murder in a South Bethlehem parking lot. Francisco G. Miranda, 50, was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in state prison after pleading guilty to third-degree murder, according to published reports. Under the terms of a plea bargain, Miranda will serve the maximum sentence that would have been allowed at the time of the murder, according to The Morning Call. Miranda eluded authorities while he lived in the Dominican Republic but he didn’t flee the country on his own, the newspaper reported. New Jersey officials unwittingly deported Miranda—just weeks after the Bethlehem homicide—after he was arrested on drug charges under an assumed name, according to …

OMG PD: $1.29 Lemonade Theft Leads to Felony Charge

Bethlehem man accused of stealing $1.29 soft drink at a 7-Eleven, but because of prior retail theft convictions, the charge is considered a felony, according to court papers.

A Bethlehem man is facing a felony charge for allegedly stealing a bottle of lemonade valued at less than $2. In other weird local crime news, a man tried to steal 114 candy bars from a Wawa convenience store.  That's because Frank Rodriguez, 54, has past retail theft convictions, Bethlehem police said in court papers. Rodriguez, of the 1700 block of Markham Drive, was charged Sunday with retail theft after a clerk at the 7-Eleven at 101 E. Broad St. told police she saw him stick a $1.29 bottle of Turkey Hill lemonade into his pocket and walk out of the store. Rodriguez is charged with retail theft and was arraigned before District Judge Richard Yetter in Wilson, who set bail at $5,000.

Celebrate New Year's Eve on Main Street in Bethlehem

Live music, cash bar, free champagne toast planned for inaugural open air New Year's Eve Celebration on Main Street.

The Downtown Bethlehem Association will host the first ever Main Street New Year’s Eve celebration to ring in 2013. The open-air celebration in the Historic Downtown will feature live music with the Trouble City All-Stars and the Lehigh Valley Harmonizers, a cash bar, food vendors and a free champagne toast at midnight. In Bethlehem, we all know about the Peeps drop, but this event will culminate at midnight with a “Bethlehem Star rise.” “Our board of directors wanted to pull this together because there is nothing that happens anymore at midnight in Bethlehem,” said Samantha Schwartz, manager of the DBA. Until 2010, Bethlehem had First Night, a dry celebration staged at a number of venues that never really succeeded financially. To ring …
